Rev. Steven Eugene Carter serves as the Pastor at the Mount Ararat
Baptist Church Brooklyn, New York and believes that Mount Ararat is “A
Church On The Hill Reaching Down To Pick People Up”. Prior to being called as pastor of the
Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Rev. Carter served for three years as Pastor to
Singles, College & Young Adults at Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston,
Texas, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Joe Samuel Ratliff.
Being an only child of Mr.
Eugene and Mrs. Mary Carter and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Rev. Carter
received his elementary education at Thelma J. Hamilton School and secondary
education at Thomas Jefferson High School.
He further received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion at Morehouse
College Atlanta, Georgia and his Master of Divinity Degree in Theology at Duke
University School of Divinity Durham, North Carolina.
Since his early youth, Rev.
Carter has been actively involved in leadership positions and in the work of
the Church. During high school, Rev.
Carter served as the high school spokesperson, which afforded him to appear on
a national television programs on two separate occasions. Rev. Carter also served as a Leader in the
Future Business Leaders of America Organization. Under the Pastorate of Rev. James T. Reeder,
Rev. Carter served as the President of J.T.R Youth Choir and Baptist Youth
Fellowship at the Mount Ararat Baptist Church.
Rev. Steven Eugene Carter became a licensed Preacher on July 9, 1995
under the previous Pastor, Rev. Dr. Elliott Cuff and ordained on April 8,
2001.
While at Morehouse College,
he was a leader in the nationally recognized Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
International Chapel Assistants, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lawrence
Edward Carter, Sr.. While at Morehouse,
Rev. Carter was selected as a recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Scholarship, NAACP Scholarship and other awards that afforded him many great
opportunities. While at Duke University,
Rev. Carter had the opportunity to serve as resident assistant to the
undergraduate students, which afforded him several opportunities to serve as a
mentor to others. In addition, during
his academic journey at Duke, he served as Chaplain at University of North
Carolina Hospital of Chapel Hill, which is rated the #1 trauma center in North
Carolina. During his time at University
of North Carolina, he was able to develop his pastoral skills that assisted him
in caring for people in unique Christ-like ways.
Among the gifts and talents
that God has granted Rev. Carter, his passion has been directed towards
preaching. Rev. Carter has been blessed
to share the gospel and preach at various Churches, which includes but not
limited to, St. Paul’s Community Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York; Salem
Missionary Baptist Church of Greensboro, North Carolina; Brookhollow Baptist
Church, Houston, Texas; Greater Christ Baptist Church, Detroit, Michigan;
University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill, Duke University, Durham, North
Carolina and several other Churches around the nation. His gifts have also afforded him the
opportunity to be the keynote speaker for the National Conference and the
National African-American Medical Student Conference (NAACP), both of which
took place in Houston, Texas. In addition to preaching in Churches, Rev. Carter
has lectured, participated in panel discussions and delivered commencement
speeches. He is also a member of Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated.
